Illegal Dumping

Illegal dumping involves the unauthorized disposal of waste on public or private property.  Not only is illegal dumping harmful to our environment, it's unsightly and expensive, with cleanup costs being paid by taxpayers.

Effective January 1, 2018, changes were made to the  Waste Bylaw to provide for better deterrence and enforcement efforts. These changes include increased fines for illegal dumping ($500 for a first infraction and $1,000 for a second infraction) and the ability to issue tickets to the vehicle owner for any vehicle involved in an illegal dumping infraction.

 How you can help us

  1. Illegal dumping can be reported by calling the 24hr. Customer Service Centre or by completing the online reporting form below.
  2. If you witness illegal dumping try to get photos and/or video that will provide valuable information.  Also write down as much information as you can including:
    • Licence plate number and description of the vehicle
    • Description of the people involved
    • Description of the items being illegally dumped
    • Time, date and location of the incident

What you can expect from us

  1. Once a complaint has been received, an Environmental Protection Officer will conduct an investigation and respond accordingly.
  2. Depending on the number of complaints, the location, and the nature of the materials (i.e. the level of potential threat to human health or the environment), response times may vary from one hour to several business days.
