Clean Soil

Clean soil cannot be mixed with:

  • Wood
  • Stumps
  • Branches
  • Concrete
  • Asphalt
  • Metal parts and pieces
  • Plastics
  • Ceramics and masonry materials
  • Rocks greater than 6 inches in diameter
  • Refuse and garbage
  • Chemical substances that are regulated by the province

Approval Process for Clean Soil

  1. When is approval required?
    1. Soil deliveries that will exceed one load per day must be pre-approved.
    2. Single loads from residential sites or single loads from private citizens are exempt from the process.
  2. If you will have less than 10 loads per day from a single site, call the Soils Engineer at (306) 975-2487 for confirmation that the soil is acceptable at the landfill.
    1. If the soil contains or has the potential to contain non-natural chemical substances, the soil must be tested to determine the concentration of that type of substance. See the application form for details.
  3. If you have more than 10 loads per day from a single site complete the application form and send it to soil@saskatoon.ca for processing.
    1. All applicants will be required to have a landfill business account number that will be used to track soil deliveries.
      1. If the total soil quantity from a single source site will exceed 1000 tonnes (1600 m3), a unique project number will be required; haulers will not be able to use their business account number.
      2. Call 306-975-2486 to request an account number.
    2. If the soil contains or has the potential to contain non-natural chemical substances, the soil must be tested to determine the concentration of that type of substance. See the application form for details (hyperlink to application form).
    3. Allow a minimum of two business days for the approval process.
  4. Successful applicants will be issued tracking and disposal tickets that must be used with each load that is delivered to the landfill. Every load must report to the landfill scale.

If you have questions about the clean soil approval process, contact soil@saskatoon.ca.

Landfill staff reserve the right to refuse any soil or to impose charges if the soil is not clean.
